Steve Cohen / Too Far Gone Screen-printing Melbourne.

Steve is a screen-printer/ Artist based in Melbourne. He has recently just opened his own new warehouse to print shirts and I haven't met someone who can do so many things at once and still have time to skate and draw rad pictures. You know the shirts have been hand printed with love/whilst listening to Husker du and it shouldn't be done any other way!

Last year was a big year. I moved house about three times, I had my first solo exhibition, met some incredible people that shaped the year up for me and I sent myself overseas for a change! A lot has changed since then and i'm ready to adapt to a new year once it starts kicking in...

This shot was taken in Lower East side, New York. Rocket Science Records. One of many record stores that I found myself spending hours in playing lucky dip with second hand records. I love New York so much it's become a second home after spending two months there and I plan on going back this year. Hopefully to live one day!

I will be posting on this blog weekly as there will be plenty for you to keep up to date with. This is the year of working hard and doing bigger and better things!

D.I.Y TAPES

I had the opportunity to have a go at dubbing my own tapes for my band OUTRIGHT. We are a fairly new Hardcore band from Melbourne. I made these tapes for the 100 shows for Haiti Benefit show at the Arthouse. Lmtd to 30, these suckers disappeared in 5 minutes! They are soaked in Ironlak so I'm surprised they actually still work.

Before I show you anything...I have to point out there was alot of record spinning and getting up to flip over to side B.. tea, soy mochas and sasparella consumed during the making of these works.....

Cut up and sealed recycled wood from an old ship, Pays to keep all that wood you collected, Thanks dad!

This was one of the last oil paintings I had done, I really miss oil painting.. I need a studio to get back into it so I can make more of these! There was lots of glazing and about four layers for the lime yellow, it's about 1m x 1m.

This would have to be one of the most fun techniques I have ever come across, I ended up spending alot of time in the screen printing studio mucking around with colours ect. Here are a couple I worked on from one of my watercolour paintings

Last year my friend Franca and I decided we needed to do something about artists in the hardcore punk scene. Not many of them have had their work on show before and we usually only get to see it on a shirt, Cd slip or posters ect.
It was great to see how many people were interested to be apart of this! I also learnt alot more about the relationship between the artwork and the music.
So we chased up about 30 different artists, Some from different states, Photographers, Tattooist's, Painters, Graffiti artists, Illustrators, zine writers and bands too...

Hopefully we repeat this again this year !

Book Binding: I took up a course on Advanced Book Binding, I learnt different ways on how you could make a book. I didn't realise all the different ways you could classify something as a book too!
For my project I ended up making my own Morality card and Diary set.
This came along with small gouache paintings, scrabble letters, Lino Cut prints to make my own patterned paper, Pockets for holding collectable favours and what not. All in all it turned out to be one hell of a neat book!

* To make these I had to search high and low for a perfect little sized skull, long behold I found myself in a mornington $2 shop and found this disgusting skull money box, with a scorpion guarding the money slot. This was the toughest looking skull i've ever seen, if you look at the eyes you will see I have kept the angry eye holes... It took an hour to sandblast that terrible scorpion off (well... thanks to dad really)..
I then made a latex mould of both halves of the skull, Cast sections day by day in plaster of paris.
After making about 17 skulls, I mixed more plaster and joint them together, another day to dry and I had to sand them all smooth.
Once this was done I had to seal the skulls with sherlac .This then enabled me to spray them with enamel paint. IRONLAK: You are my best friend!

OH AND SOME SENTIMENTAL CARDS...
*Ever since I was a child my mum taught me to make everything by hand, My favourite thing to do was write letters and make cards. Alongside other lil inventions I decided to make every afternoon..Well heres someting that hasn't changed! Here's to never buying a Hallmark card!

This would be the first show I will be apart of this year. It's all about Artist's who have graduated from different Melbourne art schools in 2009. I was lucky enough to be chosen to be apart of this. I decided to make a whole set of new works for it too. Kinda crazy but so worth the trouble and I enjoyed every minute of it.. I'll take photos of the show this week.

Dear All...

I made this so I could post my art for you to have a look at.. I can't describe what this will look like but hopefully you will learn what i'm all about in the long run.

I have just finished my Bachelor degree in Fine Art painting at Rmit in melbourne, Now I am making work at home and hopefully in a new studio I can call my own soon/ Playing in a hardcore band that hopefully develops more in the next few months/ Studying for a Dip ed course for Secondary Art teaching.

2010 will be great.

I'll keep this updated you'll see.
